Mike has been active in the oil and gas industry in the Appalachian Basin since 1985. In addition to studying Petroleum Engineering in college, Mike learned all aspects of the oil and gas business while performing a wide variety of duties, including serving as a roustabout and well tender in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, for several independent producers.
In 1994, Mike and his father Steve Shaver co-founded Mountain V Oil and Gas Company.
As Vice President of Mountain V, Mike reviewed geological surveys and selected drilling locations; developed fracture designs and procedures for drilling completions, equipment installations and production monitoring; supervised the two drilling and two completion rigs owned by an affiliated company; managed the field personnel responsible for tending the Company’s wells.
Mike became President of Mountain V in 2006. He continues to oversee the selection of locations and drilling of all the Company’s wells. Mike also directs the Company’s acquisition efforts, negotiates numerous lease acquisitions and joint venture drilling agreements, manages relationships with various joint venture partners and drilling investors, all while maintaining banking and financial relationships.
